A sperm whale (balyena) measuring 45 feet, weighing 20 tons approximately, was found dead Sunday, June 20, 2010 by fishermen at the shoreline of Barangay Tebanban, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.
The Coast Guard - Davao Oriental headed by Lt. Ramil Palabrica had contacted ENRO, PENRO, DA, BFAR and local officials on what they are going to do with this biggest mammal in the world which is very heavy to pull.
They are looking for a place where to bury the whale, as well as?looking for heavy equipment to pull it.
As of this time the whale is still beached.
Dr. Lea Jiminez of the Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology said to Lt. Palabrica, "Glad you were able to recover and secure the whale, this is very important event as our waters of Davao Oriental can have the biggest sea mammal in the world, this is world record.
